Saturday market launches in Market Deeping during Easter weekend

The first Saturday market in Market Deeping drew in hundreds of shoppers thanks to a great range of stalls and brilliant sunshine.

Goods on sale covered a broad spectrum of interests, from garden plants to fishing equipment, as well as having plenty of tantalising food on sale.

The market was established by South Kesteven District Council's economic growth and regeneration company, InvestSK and has gained backing from people and businesses in the Deepings.

The launch event on the Saturday of Easter weekend featured musical entertainment by the Stamford Stompers Dixieland Jazz quartet, plus an enormous Easter bunny.

Deeping Youth Group raised £180 for its funds through the sale of eye-catching I'd Rather be in Deeping bags, which help to promote local shopping.

Meanwhile, town businesses benefited too, with The Bull in Market Square well-placed to attract customers.

Gail Demaine, manager at The Bull, said: "It was lovely to see so many people about and we were busy from then we opened at 9am for breakfasts, then we were serving lunches and stayed busy right through until the evening.

"We're looking forward to Saturday again!"

SKDC and InvestSK consulted with local people and businesses before securing an order to suspend public parking in the square when the markets are held.

The Deepings also has an historic market from 8am to 3pm each Wednesday in The Precinct. The aim of InvestSK is to supplement this with an additional weekly market in Market Square, enticing more people to shop locally, and to bring in visitors.

If anyone is interested in having a stall at subsequent Saturday markets they should contact Miki Gregory at m.gregory@southkesteven.gov.uk

The Saturday market is now open to shoppers from 8.30am to 3pm each week.
