Suspected criminals hunted by police after car dumped in Stamford area

Suspected criminals who gave police the slip on the A47 on Wednesday are being hunted after their green Volkswagen Golf was found dumped in the Stamford area.

The dramatic incident happened at about 12.30pm in a layby on the busy main road near Morcott, Rutland.

Inspector Gavin Drummond, of Leicestershire Police, said: "Officers attempted to stop the vehicle as it is believed it was being driven by individuals we suspect are involved in criminality across Rutland.

"Unfortunately the officers were unable to stop the vehicle.

"However, it has now been recovered after being abandoned in the Stamford area."

Police spoke to eye-witnesses in the layby after the drama as they try to piece together what happened.
