The Parks School in Oakham gets outstanding Ofsted report
A special school has received an outstanding Ofsted report after ‘18 months of passion and perseverance’.
Headteacher of The Parks School Steve Cox said he was absolutely delighted with the judgement by Ofsted inspectors in the report released last week. The school received outstanding ratings in all four areas: effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development and behaviour; and outcomes for pupils.
At its last inspection in 2013, the school, which provides specialist nursery provision for children with severe and complex learning difficulties, received a ‘requires improvement’ rating.
In her report, lead Ofsted inspector Nina Bee said that “highly effective leadership has led to rapid improvements” and said governors have an understanding of the school’s strengths and weaknesses.
She said outcomes for children were outstanding and their specific needs and difficulties are “carefully addressed”.
She also said the staff had “extremely high expectations” of pupils, which created a culture of enabling children to do their very best.
She said the school could improve further by developing the outside provision further and by strengthening the systems used to monitor the children’s progress.
Mr Cox said the result was down to those who had supported the school “through some difficult times” and in particular he thanked the teams at Rutland County Council, governors, parents and staff for their hard work.
Of the children there, he said: “Each and every individual brings something different and I am incredibly proud of them all.”
He described his staff as “resilient, determined and passionate”.
Mr Cox added that even with an outstanding report, the school still had a “long journey ahead”.
But he added: “Together we have made an excellent start and can use this report as a further platform to build on for future success.”
The Parks School is based at the same site as Oakham CE Primary School but the two schools have separate Ofsted reports.
