A couple who transformed their pub’s beer garden into a tranquil hideaway have won an award for their work.
Dan Lacey and fiancee Kerry Marshall took over at The Wheatsheaf in Northgate, Oakham, in April and immediately started replanting the garden.
They created several different areas under a “secret garden” theme with the aim of giving customers somewhere peaceful to enjoy a drink.
Now pub owner Everard’s has named them winners in the medium category of the Spencer Memorial Garden Competition.
Kerry said: “It’s nice to feel the effort we have put in is worth it. Customers appreciate it and we hope they feel like they aren’t in a pub garden but one at someone’s home.”
