A prestigious retail chain has been given the go-ahead to transform an empty store.

The White Company applied for permission to open in the former Clinton Cards store in High Street, Stamford, and now South Kesteven District Council has given the plans permission.

In its approval notice, the council said the development was considered to be “sympathetic” to the Grade II* listed building and the conservation area.

The upmarket firm sells high quality linen, clothing and gifts.

The company was not available to comment on the plans but the application stated it would give the empty store a “new lease of life” and create seven jobs.

It will be a two-storey shop with a customer lift and a new staircase installed.
