Rutland Musical Theatre will soon step out of the confines of the small county for the first time in its history to put on a performance.

The first covid lockdown was put in place just a couple of weeks before the theatre company was due to perform Fiddler on the Roof.

The production was rescheduled, but in June last year the society was forced to move out of its planned theatre and seek alternative venues.

With no other theatres in Rutland large enough to accommodate the planned production, eyes turned to the larger neighbouring East Midlands counties, before setting on the Corby Cube.

The cast recently visited the Corby Cube for the first time for a tour and to undertake rehearsal in the new performance surroundings.

Tom Johnson, chairman of Rutland Musical Theatre and director of the production, said: “Walking into the Corby Cube Theatre for the first time elicited a whole host of emotions for our cast and company.

“It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the fantastic space and west end quality auditorium that greets you as you enter the theatre - but coupled with a slight nervous energy the overriding atmosphere was one of great joy and excitement.

“It was the injection of energy and determination the cast needed in the run up to our final few weeks of rehearsals and I have no doubts that this joy will exude from our cast to out audiences.”

After nearly three years in the making, Rutland Musical Theatre's Fiddler on the Roof will take to the stage at The Corby Cube from April 13 to 16.

A cast and crew of more than 50 people, ranging in age from 10 to 80, will perform five shows consisting of four evening performances and a Saturday matinee.

With songs including ‘Tradition’, ‘If I were a Rich Man’ and ‘Matchmaker’, and some featured stilt-walking, the show is set to be the most ambitious show the group has performed.

Tickets are selling well, with some performances now having fewer than 100 seats left and the remainder of performances following close behind.
