Thieves target unlocked cars in latest spate

More cars in the Bourne area have been broken into over the weekend despite police warning drivers to secure their vehicles.

A spate of thefts from cars in Bourne caused police to launch extra patrols.

Last week The Local reported there had been at least a dozen incidents.

On Saturday night items were stolen from four unlocked vehicles in Westwood Drive, Bourne.

On Thursday night last week there were another three incidents of thefts from vehicles in the north of Bourne. The incidents happened in Foxley Court, Whetherby Close and Northfields.

Police are appealing for anyone who may know the identity of the people committing these crime and does not wish to talk to them to contact Crimestoppers on 0800555111, where calls will not be traced and callers will not be asked to supply name address details

Police are also warning drivers to take measures to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of 

Officers say the cars being targeted are those with property left on display.

Items such as sat navs, smart phones, laptops and cash are being taken.

Police have warned that putting valuable items in a glove compartment is not good enough – thieves will smash windows and search glove compartments.
