Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a cash machine was stolen from outside of a supermarket.

At about 3.50am today (Monday, April 4) thieves demolished a building during a ram raid at the Co-operative store in Burley Road, Oakham.

It is believed a JCB digger, which was stolen from a nearby farm just prior to the incident, was used to remove the standalone machine from the store’s car park.

Police believe three men loaded the cash machine onto the back of a vehicle - described as a dark coloured flatbed 4x4.

They then left the scene, travelling along the B668 towards Market Overton.

The digger was left at the location and has since been recovered by police.
