Thurlby's open gardens event was a great success - despite heavy rain on its first day.

Organiser Yve Scott said Saturday's weather brought few visitors, but a fine Sunday more than made up for it.

She said: “Hundreds of people turned up and it was a great success.

"There was lots of happy, smiling faces and the people who opened their gardens were absolutely overwhelmed with the lovely remarks from the visitors."

Thurlby Open Gardens has taken place every other year for about 20 years. New this year was a scarecrow and wheelbarrow competition.

A record £1,700 was raised to be shared between St Firmin’s Church, Thurlby, and the Methodist Chapel.
