Time to sign up for this year’s Deepings Raft Race

Volunteers, sponsors and teams are needed for a charity river race.

The Deepings Raft Race will take place on the River Welland on Sunday, August 4.

The event will have a “Hawaiian Beach Party” theme so you can expect to see plenty of hula skirts on display.

The race was under threat earlier this year after the Rotary Club of the Deepings said it could not afford to run it.

But it was salvaged in March after several Deeping businesses, including The Boundary fish and chip shop, pledged to support the event.

Teams, sponsors and volunteers are now needed to make the race a success.

Spokesman Andy Pelling said: “Whilst we do now have a strong group of volunteers working on this project there is an awful lot to do, so anyone willing to help out as a marshall on the day or in the many tasks during the weeks leading up to the big day should contact us.

“Most of all, we want the public to put this fantastic, fun and very unusual event in their diaries and to come and enjoy the day which will feature much more than just the raft race.”

Sponsors and traders can also apply at the Deepings Raft Race website.
