A slating firm that focuses on historic buildings has won a nation award for its work.

Claude N Smith, based in Collyweston, took the prize for best heritage project at the Roofing Awards 2014.

The firm was honoured for its work on The Laurels in Stilton, near Peterborough. The owners of the Grade 2 listed building, which dates back to 1760, asked for the front and rear elevations to be re-tiled in hand-dressed Collyweston slate.

Business owner Nigel Smith said: “It was a great day to win this award knowing that our work is recognised as some of the best in the nation.”
