A HISTORIC site has been given a new lease of life thanks to a £50,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Torpel Manor Field, in Bainton Parish, will now be home to a new interpretation centre and permanent exhibition thanks to the cash boost.

In addition, the grant will fund a new archaeological research project designed to find out more about the history of the site, its previous occupants and its significance in the regional landscape.

Torpel Manor was originally the home of Roger de Torpel, one of William the Conqueror’s knights and subsequently the home to generations of knights.
