Police dispersal order to cover Market Deeping town centre this weekend
A police dispersal order will cover a town centre this weekend, giving officers the power to arrest people who don't leave when asked.
The order will be in place on Friday and Saturday night in Market Deeping.
It follows a group of up to 30 youths throwing fireworks and food on Saturday night (May 1) - they did not stop when police arrived.
A dispersal order gives police the power to arrest people for not leaving an area when asked.
Insp Gary Stewart said: "There will be extra officers on duty to engage with people who are out and with people working in licensed premises.
"All licensed premises have responsibility to ensure they do not serve people are drunk, and it is against the law to do so.
"It is drunkenness that elicits behaviour like our officers saw on Saturday, and licensed premises have a part to play in preventing this."
He added: “We also ask that customers looking to enjoy a few drinks in the town this weekend do so sensibly. We would rather these people go home happy than end up in a custody suite.”
