House in Emlyns Street, Stamford painted black

A mock Tudor house which has been painted completely black has left residents divided.

The property in Emlyns Street, Stamford now dons a stand-out look in comparison to its neighbours.

While there are mixed opinions on the new look, many people have been questioning whether painting a house this colour is permitted on social media.

A spokesman for South Kesteven District Council said: "If a building is not listed, whether residential or commercial, planning permission is not required to paint it as that falls into the category of permitted development."

In Stamford there are additional restrictions on permitted developments in some parts of the conservation areas. However, Emlyns Street is not in this area so there are no restrictions and the painting of this property is lawful.

The property owner declined to comment.
