Bourne to host new Picnic in the Park event at Wellhead Park
Bourne is set to emerge from its lockdown hibernation with a new family-friendly event in the next month.
Picnic in the Park has been scheduled for Saturday, July 4 at the Wellhead Park and Memorial Gardens from 11am to 4pm.
The event, organised by Bourne Town Council, will feature live music and entertainment from local performers, as well as a fair in South Street car park, and food stalls.
Families are encouraged to dust off their picnic hampers and drop by for an afternoon in the fresh air, while following current Covid guidelines and social distancing.
Paul Fellows, who became Bourne's new mayor on Tuesday, is helping to organise the event.
"We are putting it together to move forward from the Covid situation, obviously only if we can," he said.
"It's a community event to get people out in the open air and celebrate the summer.
"The event will be managed and we will make sure everyone stays safe."
Last year's events calendar was badly-hit by lockdowns and restrictions, and this summer's has also been disrupted with the cancellation of the annual Bourne Festival and Classic Car Show.
The council is planning ahead for the Christmas lights switch-on and Bonfire Night, while the Lions are still hoping to hold their annual fun day in July if the situation allows.
"Just doing something is the most important thing," Paul added.
"It puts it out there that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that things are starting to get back to normal."
