TRAFFIC: Commuters face long delays and diversion as A1 southbound near Grantham remains closed this evening

By Peter Gudde

Commuters face long delays in the Grantham area this evening as the A1 southbound remains closed between the A46 and A52.

The A1 was earlier closed in both directions following a collision and vehicle fire involving two HGVs this morning, Thursday May 14.

The northbound carriageway is now open, but the southbound carriageway remains closed after if suffered fire damage.

Highways England are working to resurface the road, but it could be closed until tomorrow morning.

A diversion is in place. All traffic is advised to leave the A1 southbound and follow the diamond symbol via the A46 southbound. This route will go through Newark and Saxondale. Traffic will then take the A52 eastbound to rejoin the A1 at Grantham.
