Man arrested after fatal crash on A1

A man has died following a two car collision on the A1 near South Witham on Saturday.

The crash happened on the southbound carriageway near to the Fox Inn pub at about 4.58pm.

The driver of a blue Ford Focus, a 24-year-old man from Glenrothes, Fife, in Scotland, was taken to Peterborough City Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The 30-year-old driver of a blue Volkswagen Passat from Frampton, near Boston, was taken to the same hospital, with minor injuries, but discharged after treatment. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was later released on bail to return to the police station at a later date after further enquiries have been made.

The road was reopened at about 11.40pm on Saturday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
