TV gardener Carol Klein opened the new Geoff Hamilton Border at Barnsdale Gardens on Tuesday last week to a wonderful turnout.

The new feature was redeveloped from the old Winter Border originally created by Geoff during his time presenting Gardeners’ World. It is made up largely of plants donated by his old friends, family and colleagues, in commemoration of his untimely death 20 years ago.

Geoff’s widow Lynda and son Nick spoke about the principles behind, and making of, the border, before Carol made an inspiring and emotional speech about Geoff Hamilton; what he meant to her and to so many other gardeners.

Carol then officially opened the border by planting the final plant, donated from her own garden in Devon.

Nick said: “It was lovely to see so many friends and we were so pleased that Carol could come and really make it a day to remember.”

Earlier this month, a tribute was made to Geoff Hamilton on the current series of Gardeners’ World (episode 19).

Stamford gardener Adam Frost was featured on the programme visiting Barnsdale to revisit some of his own early gardening memories.

The programme is still available to watch by going to BBC iPlayer.
