The A1 northbound at Grantham has reopened this evening (Wednesday) following a serious collision which earlier closed the carriageway.

The northbound carriageway was closed between its junction with the A52 at Barrowby and the B1174 at Gonerby Moor.

The crash resulted in a fuel spillage across the carriageway.

At 4.08pm firefighters from Grantham were called after two cars collided. The crew gave trauma care to two casualties and made both vehicles safe.

There were delays northbound back past Great Ponton and southbound back past the B1174, at Downtown. Diversons were in place via the A52.

The collision had a knock-on impact on roads in Grantham itself with Barrowby Road, Gonerby Road and Sankt Augustin Way all very busy at the time.

A crash on the A1 northbound just north of the A52 caused long tailbacks.
