UPDATED: Driver caught after pursuit to Stamford charged




A driver who was caught in Stamford following a pursuit on Wednesday morning (January 2) has been charged.

Florin Mirita, 28, of Highlands Way, Stamford, has been charged with driving without a licence, failing to provide a sample and driving without insurance.

He has been bailed to appear at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on January 23.

Mirita was spotted just after 5am weaving in and out of lanes and driving at 20mph along the A1 before coming the a stop on Tinwell Road where the car caught fire.

The car was being driven on its rims.

Cambridgeshire Police said they were called at 5.12am to reports of a car being driven erratically on the A1 at Wansford.

Officers followed the car northbound to Stamford where they stopped it on Tinwell Road and it burst into flames.

Mirita escaped unharmed.

Assisted by Lincolnshire officers and members of the public, he was arrested.

Firefighters attended and the car was later recovered from the scene.
