The Met Office has issue yellow severe weather warning for wind and torrential rain in the East of England on Friday and Saturday, July 24-25.

An area of rain and strong to gale force winds is expected to cross much of southern England on Friday before clearing to the east on Saturday morning.

The Met Office is today advising of an increased likelihood of localised flooding, especially across southeast England and East Anglia, where the warning may yet be escalated to Amber. These areas are also most likely to be affected by northerly gales, with winds gusting to 45 mph inland and around 55mph along coasts.

An area of low pressure will run northeastwards close to southern England today (Friday), deepening into quite an intense feature for the time of year, before clearing to the east early on Saturday.

More than 30mm is expected quite widely but with the likelihood now that some areas could well see more than 70mm of rain.

The combination of factors brings the risk of disruption to outdoor activities and heavy holiday traffic.

The weather may cause particular problems for those enjoying The Secret Garden Party at Abbots Ripton in Cambridgeshire over the next couple of days.
