The new Uppingham Hopper bus will launch on a six-month trial basis on Monday (October 5).

The bus service, which will link the outskirts of the town with the centre, will run on a figure of eight route. It will pick up and drop off passengers in High Street, at Uppingham Surgery, Welland Vale Nursery, Uppingham School Sports Centre, Uppingham Cricket Club and Uppingham C of E School along with a number of stops in outlying streets.

A team of five volunteer drivers operating on a rotating half day shift pattern will deliver the service which has been jointly funded by Uppingham Town Council and Rutland County Council. All drivers have undertaken extensive training and are MIDAS certificated.

Timetables will be delivered to every house in Uppingham this weekend and will also be available at www.uppinghamfirst.co.uk.

The trial service will be free to use, but Uppingham First will carry out research to see whether people would be happy to pay for it.
