VANDALS damaged five flower baskets in Oakham on Friday.
The five baskets, which are attached to railings in Cutts Close, Oakham, were damaged on Friday night.
Four baskets were ruined but one was salvaged.
Maureen Dodds, who is chairman of the Oakham in Bloom committee, was devastated by the attack, particularly as judges from Britain in Bloom visited the town today.
She said: “I was so angry when I found out what had happened on Saturday morning. Volunteers work really hard to keep the town looking nice 365 days a year and for this to happen just before the judges came was really disappointing.”
The baskets were replaced in time for the judges visit, which according to Maureen went well despite the setback.
The committee will find out in September if it has won a top award.
