A toddler playhouse which has only just been installed by the community team at Lawrance Park in Thurlby, has already been targeted by vandals within 24 hours of installation.

The hand-crafted, wooden playhouse which features an open door with a small table and two benches inside, was spray painted and damaged on the same day that it was officially opened by the Lawrance Park Recreation Ground and Community Association.

The children’s park, which is located just outside Thurlby Primary School, has been the recent focus of much needed improvements which have been funded by the Lawrance Park Management Committee.

Sandra Walker, secretary to the community association has been helping with the project, she said: “As a community we wanted to improve the children’s play area, it’s a lovely little park. We decided to do little projects here and there - and the toddler playhouse and a four seater bench were the most recent installations.

“It’s so sad that the toddler playhouse has already been damaged and so soon after the installation.”

The committee are looking towards installing more items at the park, including a children’s roundabout, to provide more for the local community.

Sandra said: “We will continue to improve the park and won’t let a few mindless people spoil it for others.

“We are always looking for feedback and suggestions from the local community to enable us to provide more for children and families. We are also looking at installing a ‘teen shelter’ for the older children, to act as a place for them to hang out with friends.”
