Bourne Cricket Club is carrying out repairs to its equipment after vandals left holes in two pitch covers overnight on Monday.

The culprits took a pole used to mark out the boundary at the Abbey Lawn ground in Bourne and punched holes in two covers on the cricket pitch and wicket.

They also went under the cover and scattered rubbish, including the leftovers of a Chinese takeaway, onto the pitch.

Club captain Peter Morgan said: “Our chairman went down to the ground on Tuesday morning and found that the culprits had taken one of the poles that hold the ropes up and punctured the covers with it.

“They also went under the covers and put on the wicket.

“It was absolutely horrible and I just don’t understand it.”

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 109 of June 28.
