Two vehicles crashed into walls in a Stamford street after skidding on ice caused by an ongoing water leak.

The accidents happened in Conduit Road. The first took place at about 7am on Friday (January 15), when a white van skidden on ice and hit a garden wall. A police spokesman said: “Nobody was injured as a result. Highways were informed in relation to the condition of the road and officers who attended the collision placed a number or warning signs in the area to inform motorists of the icy conditions.”

And the second happened at about 9am on Saturday (January 16). The spokesman added: “It is believed that the Volkswagen Golf left the road due to icy road conditions. The road was closed just after the collision to allowed for clean-up and recovery and highways were informed of the conditions.

“Thankfully, nobody was injured as a result.

“We would like to take this opportunity to remind all motorists in that area and also the whole of the county to please take extra care in the wintery conditions. Icy roads can sometimes be difficult to spot so please drive with extra care and attention during cold temperatures.”

Anglian Water engineers are investigating the ongoing leak, which has begun to freeze over in the recent cold temperatures. The leak, which often sends water running down the steep road, has been a problem for some time. Anglian Water engineers were at the scene on Friday and will return today (Monday, January 18) to investigate the problem.
