Video: A1 southbound took 26 hours to fully re-open after crash

Have your say

The A1 southbound at Alwalton re-opened at 5.30am today (July 19), some 26 hours after the crash that forced its closure and caused traffic jams all the way back to Stamford.

Both lanes were closed between the road’s junctions with the A605 and A1(M) junction 17 after a lorry collided with the central reservation at 3.30am, damaging 200 metres of barrier and spilling diesel on the carriageway.

Following repairs, the Highways Agency was able to re-open one lane at about 10.20pm yesterday evening, with the other following this morning.

No-one was hurt in the crash.
