Residents in Market Overton, Rutland, in a flap after huge hen house gets planning permission

Feathers are most certainly ruffled in the Rutland village of Market Overton after plans were approved to build a rearing shed for 80,000 chickens on its doorstep.

Fuming residents say the stench, noise, dust and flies from the facility could deter tourists from returning to their pub, campsite and other businesses.

Some claim the pong could also ruin bowls and cricket matches and even pose a threat of ‘bird strikes’ to RAF planes taking off and landing at nearby Kendrew Barracks.
