farmers are being urged to be vigilant after an outbreak of the Schmallenberg virus at 83 farms across the country.

The virus affects sheep, cattle and goats, with symptoms including fevers and stillbirths.

Despite there being no evidence of the virus at local farms but NFU policy advisor Simon Fisher said: “We’re urging farmers to be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary and liaise closely with their vet.”
