Well done to those who checked the date while reading our story about volcanic activity in Rutland.

The article, which quoted US scientists concerned that the recent seismic activity in the county was caused by an underground volcano, was indeed an April fool.

There’s no need to be concerned; as far as we’re aware, there’s no danger of a volcanic eruption in Rutland any time soon.

Most people realised the joke while they were reading. Reacting on our Facebook page, Sue Edwards wrote: “Cracking joke for April Fool’s.”

Richard Ives thought the article was “brilliant”, but Sue Liubertas said she was “not fooled”.

You can still read the full story on the Rutland & Stamford Mercury or Rutland Times websites.
