Volunteers help out by decorating a Bourne care home

Have your say

Young volunteers from the National Citizen Service spent a Saturday helping out at Bourne’s Digby Court Care Home.

The youngsters were given a free hand to put up Christmas decorations and Maria Fryer, the home’s activities co-ordinator, said they did a good job.

“This is the third lot of young people we have had and their remit this time was to decorate our dining room ready for Christmas and our Christmas fete.”

There were six young people aged 16-17 and a mentor who prepared a grotto for Father Christmas, decorated windows and hung decorations.

“I think it’s a brilliant scheme,” said Maria.

“It’s good for young people to get them out in the community and see that what they do does make a difference.

“And the residents love it - they like to interact with these youngsters and hear what they have to say.”

This Saturday the NCS team will be holding a fundraising afternoon in Bourne Abbey Church Hall for the British Heart Foundation - with a cake sale, refreshments, a tombola, jumble sale, mini-games and a leg-wax for one brave soul.

Digby Court’s Christmas fete is on Saturday, November 30, from 2.30-4.30pm with Father Christmas and various stalls.
