Members of the Welland Valley Art Society will be out in Stamford enjoying a session of ‘Plein Air’ painting as part of the Great Stamford Brush Off.

The artists, who come from not just Stamford, but as far afield as Rutland, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, will be spotted painting attractive views, not just in the town centre, but on The Meadows and at Burghley Park.

The session takes place on Sunday, August 23, from 9am to 3pm.

Vice-president of the society Nic Hart said: “This is a very pro-active and innovative venture, and the artists are all eagerly looking forward to the experience.

“A variety of techniques will be used, including pencil drawing, watercolour, oils, pastels, acrylic and line and wash.”

Following the session, the artists will take their work straight to Stamford Arts Centre in St Mary’s Hill, Stamford, where the work will be framed or mounted, before being exhibited from 3.30pm until 6pm. Some of the work may even still be wet!

People are welcome to watch the artists at work and ask questions. Members of the society feel the event might encourage new faces to join. People are also welcome to buy an image during the exhibition that they have seen painted earlier that day.
