Presentation of the 40th annual Phillips and Traylen awards for new, refurbished and historic buildings takes place at Oakham Castle




The presentation of the 40th annual Built Environment Awards for new, refurbished and historic buildings in Rutland took place at Oakham Castle on Thursday (January 9).

The awards, which are in memory of George Phillips and Tony Traylen, two well-known local historians, are for significant contributions towards maintaining or enhancing the built environment of Rutland and were presented by Margaret Miles, the High Sheriff of Rutland.

The 2019 George Phillips Built Environment Award plaque and certificate went to owners Dave and Sally Picken for the restoration and extension of Fives Cottage in Orange Street, Uppingham.
