CONTRACTORS will start work on Monday to turn the former Focus DIY store in Stamford into a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

The work to convert and extend the premises on the Markham Retail Park, off Ryhall Road, will take about four months. It is hoped the supermarket, which will create 230 jobs, will be open in time for Christmas.

A puffin crossing will also be installed in Ryhall Road and Sainsbury’s is negotiating with the retail park owners to change the layout of the car park.

While work is going on, shoppers will still be able to access other stores on the retail park.
