Grainstore Brewery, in Oakham, to host global pork pie championship as part of Ale House Rocks festival

The best home kitchen pie-makers will be vying for a world title when a new event comes to Oakham this month.

The Grainstore Brewery, in Station Approach, will host the inaugural World Amateur Pork Pie Championships on Saturday, July 30.

It will form part of the three-day Ale House Rocks music and beer festival which runs from Friday to Sunday, July 29 to 31.

The contest will be hosted by the Rutland Pork Pie Appreciation Society, a local organisation which meets regularly at The Grainstore.

Entrants will battle it out in two categories, with the winner of each earning a celebratory tankard.

The overall winner will be crowned world amateur champion and take home a trophy sponsored by Moores Estate Agents.

Entry to the pork pie championship costs £5, with all proceeds going to the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS).

The deadline for entries is Sunday, July 24. Judging will begin at 11am on the day, with the all-important results announced at 4.45pm.
