Young anglers had a terrific time fishing on Rutland Water.
A total of 77 enthusiastic youngsters aged 10 to 17 took part in the annual Rutland Youth Fly Fishing Day on the reservoir.
The day was opened by the Angling Trust’s director of angling development David Moore. With the help of volunteers from Rutland Water Fly Fishers the youngsters spent the morning learning about casting, fly tying, boat safety, and techniques.
Then in the afternoon they went out on to the water to put their skills to the test.
Fly fisher Jeremy Ball, who helped organise the day, said: “We just wanted every one of these young people to enjoy themselves and get a taster of fly fishing on Rutland Water.
“Judging by their faces, they had a day to remember. A total of 101 trout were caught up to 5lb in weight. Catching this number of fish is a tribute to the skill of the volunteer boatman.”
