I was alerted over the weekend that some trees had been vandalised in Coleridge Way, Oakham.
I went to investigate and found that over the last ten months over twenty trees have been uprooted or completely snapped in this area of the town.
The vandals don’t seem to realise that the trees were not planted for their benefit but are planted for future generations. In other words for their children and their children’s children.
It takes many years of growth to show the full extent of the beauty and summer shade these recent plantings provide.
It will cost many hundreds of pounds to replant and I hope before any more trees are vandalised whether, they are in Oakham or elsewhere, the culprits will think hard about the destruction they are causing.
