Letter: Checks can help save lives

Have your say

We usually hear complaints at this time of year about cyclists riding after dark with no lights.

This is still a problem, still a crime and still dangerous.

I was recently grateful to a friend who pointed out that my own rear bike light was obscured.

However, am I alone in thinking there are far more motorists these days with defective lighting?

Driving home recently I saw half a dozen cars and vans with at least one missing light.

It is easy to fall foul of the law occasionally by accident or omission, so may I urge readers to check their head-lights, side-lights, brake-lights reversing lights etc.

I know the cost of motoring has risen sharply recently, but the trivial cost of replacing a bulb is an investment that can save lives.
