2015-16 season preview: Bourne Town boss Rafa realistic on mid-table ambitions

Rafa Mazzarella remains realistic over what can be achieved at Bourne Town this term.

His first season with the Wakes saw them show a big improvement to finish 10th.

Mazzarella admits he would be happy with a mid-table place again.

The Bourne boss said: “Last season we were a couple of places above where we probably should have been.

“I think it’s going to be a tougher league this term with nowhere near as many ‘easy’ games.

“We have lost a bit of that explosive pace in our squad but we have gained some experience and we should be wiser.

“Sometimes you have to accept what is going on around you and we can’t match the big boys in terms of the money being spent.

“We are an established UCL side and we want to keep building as a club over the next couple of years.

“We want the under-18s to be involved and there will be a very young reserve side. It’s important to give them minutes so they can come into the first team when they are ready.”

Bourne begin at home to Buckingham Town on Saturday but the visitors have already lost 5-2 away to Oakham United.

Mazzarella said: “I’ll have a look at the highlights online and assess if their squad has changed.

“We had a couple of rubbish games against them last season when we were bang average so we’ll see what happens.

“Without giving too much away, we will be short in a couple of key areas on Saturday which is not ideal preparation but we can still give a good account of ourselves.”
