A day to remember for South African star
It was a Lincs Premier Division day to remember for Market Deeping’s Emile Kriek (July 4).
Kriek cracked his highest score of the season in the competition with 104 in Deeping’s 219-8 at Sleaford.
And the South African followed that up by returning his best bowling figures of the campaign, 4-15 as Sleaford were dismissed for 195.
It was a welcome return to form for Deeping who had lost their two previous matches to fall out of title contention.
They placed their faith in an opening bowling attack with a combined age of just 30 yesterday and one of them, 16 year-old Patrick Brown, dismissed Sleaford’s former New Zealand Test opener Tim Macintosh, a scorer of regular big hundreds at club level, in his first over for just five. Nick Green (14) picked up the wicket of the other Sleaford opener.
Deeping are third in the table, but with a considerable gap to make up on the top two Bracebridge Heath and Woodhall Spa. Bracebridge won again yesterday, but Woodhall Spa were held to a home draw by bottom club Spalding.
Spalding had the worst of the game, but provided the best two individual displays as Nuwan Jayasena bagged 8-41 in Woodhall’s 202 before Luke Hollingworth’s unbeaten 61 enabled the relegation favourites to reach safety on 168-7.
Lincoln beat Deeping last weekend (June 27), but found Bourne a tougher nut to crack.
Bourne were struggling on 105-6 chasing 177-9, but a 63-run stand for the seventh wicket between Tom Dixon (35) and Sam Evison (28no) enabled them to sneak home by two wickets.
Bourne are fourth in the table, just four points behind Deeping.
