Daniels boss Graham Drury believes his side has the perfect mix of friendlies for their pre-season preparations.

Stamford have so far organised six pre-season matches in readiness for the Evo-Stik League Division One East season.

They kick-start their pre-season schedule on Wednesday, July 4, when former Daniels boss Steve Evans is expected to be a strong Peterborough United side to the Zeeco Stadium.

Evans is eager to run the rule over his League One charges in preparation for their training camp in Portugal the following week.

He said: “I am looking forward to taking a Posh side to my old club.

“It will be a good chance for the Posh fans to see us in action locally and I will ensure that all of my squad get minutes under their belt ahead of our trip to Portugal.”

The Posh match will be followed by a Lincolnshire Senior Trophy when Evo-Stik Premier Division side Grantham Town will visit the Zeeco Stadium.

The match has been switched to Stamford as Grantham’s Mears Stadium is unavailable and is set to be staged on Tuesday, July 10.

A trip to United Counties League Division One side Harrowby United for the Pete Down Cup is next on the agenda on Tuesday, July 17.

A derby duel at Blackstones for the Jeremy Biggs Memorial Cup follows two days later before a hectic spell is rounded off with a home match on Saturday, July 21, against Southern League Premier Division side Kettering Town.

Stamford’s pre-season will finish in August with a home match against Mansfield Town Under 23s on Tuesday, August 7, before making the short trip to face Southern League Division One East side Corby Town on Saturday, August 11.

Drury commented: “We’ve got a few local derbies against the likes of Posh, Grantham, Kettering, Corby, Blackstones and Harrowby which is great for the fans.

“We should get a big crowd for the Peterborough game and I’m happy with how pre-season is shaping up. We have some decent games.”

The fixtures for the new season are expected to be released on Thursday, July 12, with the opening round of matches scheduled for Saturday, August 18.

Forward Liam Adams has become the first player to commit to the Daniels for next season following his release by Boston United.

The 20-year-old spent most of last season on loan with Stamford, scoring 11 goals in 32 appearances including a 12-minute hat-trick against Belper Town in December. Adams spent five years at Nottingham Forest before joining Boston United in 2016.
