AN evening that began with promise ended in disaster for Barnack as they crumbled in the final of the Stamford KO Shield on Wednesday evening.

Victors Bourne had made 143-7 from their 20 overs and Barnack appeared on track to win early in their reply.

Asim Butt and Tanveer Afzal got off to a flyer, bludgeoning Bourne’s Charlie Hopkins for 32 in his first two overs. And even when that talented pair had been dismissed by Fahad Masood and Tom Dixon, Barnack looked set for victory at 114-3 with six overs remaining.

But Hopkins turned the game on its head, dismissing Irfan Sadiq, Waqas Javed and Barnack skipper Steve Best with successive balls for a hat-trick.

Barnack never recovered and added just 10 for the loss of their final seven wickets. They were bowled out with two full overs to spare.

It capped a disappointing 24 hours for Barnack, who had lost in the final of the Stamford Charity Cup to neighbours Ufford Park a day earlier.
