Stamford side is in second spot after securing place in cup semi-finals
Stamford Knights Basketball Club is continuing to go from strength-to-strength.
The team, which plays in the Nene Valley League, is currently sitting in second spot after also securing their place in the cup semi-finals.
It’s only the Knights’ second season in the league after a successful first campaign and, with two games in hand on the table-toppers, they are on target for glory after a meteoric rise.
They started out with ‘pick-up’ sessions on the court at Stamford’s Recreation Ground and, after strong interest, moved to a permanent base at Borderville.
Knights’ Mark Johnstone explained: “As the number of players started to increase we wanted to create a club where anyone was welcome no matter what their playing ability.
“A little while later we were asked to participate in the Nene Valley League and this was the beginning of Stamford Knights Basketball Club.
“We are extremely lucky to have such a great group of players and always manage to take a full squad to games which shows their commitment.
“We have players that have been playing in local leagues and leagues from across the world for many years as well as players who are new to the league structure.
“The Borderville Centre continue to support us with Adam, the centre manager, always willing to help us.
“The club have also actively supported the local community by collecting for the food bank alongside Rutland Water ParkRun.”
The Knights are next in action on Friday night when they make the trip to face Huntingdon Hawks. They will be taking on Murrow Eagles in the cup semi-final on April 5.
