Baston Reserves lose feisty derby encounter

Baston Reserves suffered a derby day defeat at the hands of Glinton & Northborough, losing the PDFL Division Three clash 2-1 on Saturday.

Baston were playing some lovely football and, man of the match Jake Overland was having the game of his life, thriving on the derby clash.

But the Goats seemed to lack the finishing touch and they were to be undone in the 40th minute after a wondrous strike from the Glinton midfielder, found the top corner from 25 yards.

After the break Glinton extended their lead in the 50th minute after a scramble from a Glinton corner found the ball nestled between Finn’s legs and he was bundled over the line by a charging Glinton player, no foul given and Glinton 2-0.

The game ebbed from end to end and a few tasty challenges from both teams had the referee grabbing for his cards.

Baston were awarded a corner on 80 minutes which was headed out to the edge of the box to find Overland to smash the ball back towards the Glinton net and pull Baston back into the game. 1-2.

Both teams had a player red carded in the closing minutes and Baston could not find an equaliser.
