Uppingham dominated their home Rutland League encounter with Barnack, splendid knocks from first team skipper Martin Bennett and Mark Cox seeing them to a nine-wicket win in just the 27th over as they quickly chased down the visitors’ 153.
Batting first, Barnack got off to a very poor start, losing Steve Best for one, and Mohammed Nadeem for a duck, to good quick bowling from Max Collins. Taz Ahmed (17) and Muhammed Yaseen (36) steadied the innings, but, at 24 overs, Barnack had scored just 46 runs. Z Manzoor changed the game, hitting six massive sixes as he top scored for Barnack with 59. Barnack’s tail, however, once again collapsed with five wickets falling for just 21 runs, and they were all out for 153. Mark Cox (5- 32), Max Collins (2- 5 in that impressive opening spell) and Scott Green (2 -23) were the pick of the Uppingham bowlers. Town also produced a good all-round fielding performance.
In reply, Bennett (69 no) and Jamie Dumford (13) got Uppingham off to a good start as the Barnack bowlers struggled, losing their opening bowler Mohammed Yaseen after just 4.3 overs with a hamstring problem.
Barnack used six bowlers in total, but failed to take another Uppingham wicket as Bennett lashed 14 fours and a six in an unbeaten innings, and Cox contributed 12 imperious fours on his way to 62 not out. Muhammed Tayyub was the only Barnack wicket taker.
Uppingham travel to March next week for their Rutland League game.
