Blackstones' new management team believe they have been given the right opportunity to make the step up after the United Counties League club appointed fresh bosses this week.

The Division One side have named Jon Harrison and Ryan Wood as their new managers for the coming campaign.

The duo have moved to the Torney Limited Stadium from Peterborough League Premier Division club Netherton United.

Harrison had been in charge for nine seasons at the Peterborough-based side and led them to an incredible quadruple of Premier Division, Senior Cup, President's Shield and Northants County Cup successes during his terrific tenure.

While admitting it was a tough decision to move on after being the longest-serving current manager in the Peterborough League's top flight, Harrison is eager to get started in the new role.

He said: "We are really proud to take on the role and we're looking at it as a great opportunity.

"I was fiercely loyal to Netherton and, if we were ever going to leave, it had to be the right opportunity.

"Blackstones have a superb facility and the pitch alone means that we can take our playing style from the 3G at Netherton straight onto it.

"The club and committee and how the people around Stamford look after the ground is the first thing that really stands out when you walk into it.

"It's so well-taken care of that it makes you realise it's a proper non-league club. They are loyally backed and we want to build a competitive side which can push on.

"We want to get the crowd involved and have people want to come and watch Blackstones.

"We want to put the foundations in place to kick on with players who want to be at the club for the right reasons.

"We want to bring players who will care about the club and we really can't wait to get started."

Harrison played for Blackstones during the early days of his career while Wood featured for Netherton after a successful spell in management at Peterborough Sports.

He helped lead an all-conquering junior and youth side which then progressed into senior football as Peterborough North End.

Harrison added: "We have got a good range of players in our base.

"We have got experienced players in our contacts as well as the best of the best in the 21-year-old age range that we can pick from. There will also be players from in and around Stamford.

"We ran Netherton like it was a United Counties League club at step seven and our training was as good if not better than some of those at a higher level.

"The type of football we played was always good and we put so much into getting it where we wanted it to be.

"We now have all our player targets and we will be sifting through and speaking to them to get as many as possible in for pre-season and give everyone the opportunity to be part of our squad.

"We have got a tough pre-season booked where we will find out quite a bit about the players and what areas we need to strengthen and then we will go from there. Hopefully we can get the right blend so we hit the ground running.

"The people at Blackstones are positive clubmen so hopefully we can give them a team that will work hard, try hard, give everything and interact with those who come to watch with hopefully the bonus of seeing some decent football."

Harrison and Wood replace Lloyd Burton and Jan Czarnecki who stepped down for personal reasons last month.

A statement from Blackstones said: "We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new management team of Jon Harrison and Ryan Wood.

"Our committee would like to welcome them to the club and wish them every success at the Stones."

Chairman Gary Peace added: "Having spoken with Jon and Ryan and the vision they have for Blackstones then I'm very confident of success for our great club."
