Blackstones’ bad December continues at home
It’s been a tough December for Blackstones in the UCL Division One. The Stamford side have not won a game yet this month and the story did not get happier on Saturday when they were beaten 2-0 at home by Long Buckby AFC.
Stones started well at Lincoln Road and for 30 minutes passed the ball around and probed the visitors but never looked as if they could penetrate a well organised and disciplined defence.
The visitors looked bright and fast on the break, Aaron Fagan pulling off two reaction saves at his near post to deny Long Buckby the lead.
But in the 33rd minute, confusion in the Stones’ defence saw a penalty awarded when the visiting striker was manhandled to the ground by Calum Parker.
The spot kick was clinically dispatched and that was the difference at the interval.
The second half continued where the first half left off, the visitors pressed with several missed chances that would have killed the game off but somehow they were all put wide.
In the 90th minute Long Buckby doubled their tally to seal the match and the three points.
The loss sees Stones drop down to 14th in the league but they have two more chances to break their duck in December with a pair of mouth watering derbies. First up Blackstones are in action on Boxing Day at Bourne Town (3pm ko), before hosting Oakham United at Lincoln Road on Monday (3pm ko).
