Blackstones undone by an early goal
Potton United may be sixth in the UCL Division One but Blackstones came as close as they have in recent weeks to recording a win on Saturday.
However once again Blackstones were on the losing side, this time by just 1-0 but it means their unenviable run without a win is up to 16 games.
Potton maintained their honours challenge but found Stones more resilient than expected.
Playing a new formation of five at the back initially held against Potton who were confident in attack.
Once more failure to clear from a set piece gifted the home team the lead after just nine minutes in the subsequent six yard box scramble.
Stones, suffering one of the worst runs in the league, could have been forgiven for throwing in the towel but instead they took the game to Potton, riding their luck now and then.
Blackstones keeper Tom Clayton remained vigilant in coming off his line to sweep away threats but was not really called upon to make any conventional keeper saves.
The same cannot bet said for the home team keeper who had to pull off several top draw saves to keep the clean sheet. One from a 25 yard scorcher by Rob Dunn which he managed to reach and push round for a corner from his top left corner.
From the resultant corner Stones were unable to breach the ‘bus’ the home team had parked in front of the goal, fair dews to the home side as they resiliently defended their clean sheet run.
Throughout the match Stones fought for every loose ball, Marcus Dowman proving a nuisance to the home defence and a world’s difference in commitment from all on the park compared with the last outing.
Blackstones remain in 15th position in the table.
Stones are away at Thrapston on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
