Bourne Town manager Steve Wilson admits his young side are punching above their weight in seventh spot going into the new year.

But he feels the Wakes are getting what they deserve for hard-working performances.

Zak Munton’s 20th-minute header proved enough to beat Blackstones in the Boxing Day derby at Abbey Lawn.

However, the five-match unbeaten run was ended on Monday by a 5-0 loss away to Peterborough Sports who maintained their 100 per cent record at the top of the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Division One.

Wilson said: “Blackstones had the upper hand but my lads were fantastic in terms of their effort and commitment.

“We rode our luck at times but Zak is always capable of getting a goal for us.

We’ve got a great bunch of lads who work hard as a team. We are not physically strong and we are over-achieving a bit, although you can’t fault them for battling away.

“The game on Monday was a bit of a reality check but we had senior players missing through injury or unavailability.

“Some of the young lads felt a bit leg-weary after two games in three days but I’ll take nothing away from Sports who are a quality side.

“Although we’re disappointed to lose, I’m sure we can give them a better game at home with a full squad.

Bourne make the trip to second-bottom Bugbrooke St Michaels on Saturday.

Andrew Moss could be back in the squad, Dan Smith faces a late check on a groin problem and Dan Wilson is ruled out again.
