Bourne blown away by rampant league champions
It was a case of “in the wrong place, at the wrong time,” for Bourne on Saturday who conceded 16 tries to Midlands Four East (South) champions St Neots, finishing on the wrong end of 108-10 scoreline.
Alan Faversham scored the consolation try for Bourne who saw their chances of catching A15 rivals Deepings take a major dent as ten different St Neots players got on the scoresheet.
Saturday was the day when they picked up the trophy so they were determined to win the league in style
Bourne skipper Tom Dixon said: “We always knew it was going to be a long and hard day against St Neots who just seemed to be well-drilled with big runners, so you can see why they are league champions
“Saturday was the day when they picked up the trophy so they were determined to win the league in style.
“When we played them at home, it was a close game but we couldn’t match them physically this time.
“We just kept it tight with the forwards because we knew they had a big, strong back line and we held the ball up well.
“But couldn’t spread it quickly enough, although we did generate a bit of pressure for about ten minutes in the second half where we kept it nice and cleam.
“We had a lucky break where Jack Berry made some yards to put St Neots on the back foot and Alan Faversham scored the try.
“We’re looking at playing a friendly on Saturday before we play Sileby Town in a couple of weeks’ time, so we mustn’t let this defat get us down.”
